Who represents Maine?

Maine sends four members to the United States Congress: two senators, who represent the state as a whole, and two representatives, one for each of Maine's two congressional districts. The sections below provide background on each member of the delegation, along with a separate, regularly updated section covering their current committee assignments and recent legislative activity.

Susan Collins — Senator

Last updated

Susan Collins is the senior United States Senator from Maine, having served in the Senate since 1997. A member of the Republican Party, she was born in Caribou, Maine, in 1952 and graduated from St. Lawrence University in 1975. Before her election to the Senate, she worked on the staff of Senator William Cohen and served as Commissioner of the Maine Department of Professional and Financial Regulation under Governor John McKernan. Collins has been re-elected five times and is currently in her sixth term.

Collins is widely regarded as one of the more centrist members of the Senate Republican caucus and has frequently cast pivotal votes on bipartisan legislation.
