California sends fifty-four members to the United States Congress: two senators, who represent the state as a whole, and fifty-two representatives, one for each of California's fifty-two congressional districts. Alejandro Padilla — Senator

Alex Padilla is the senior United States Senator from California, the first Latino to represent the state in the Senate. He was appointed in January 2021 by Governor Gavin Newsom to fill the seat vacated when Kamala Harris became Vice President, and he was subsequently elected to a full term in 2022. Padilla was born in Pacoima in the San Fernando Valley in 1973 and graduated from MIT with a degree in mechanical engineering. Before entering the Senate, he served on the Los Angeles City Council, as a California State Senator, and as California Secretary of State from 2015 to 2021.

Jay Obernolte — Representative — CD-23

Jay Obernolte is the United States Representative for California's 23rd Congressional District, which covers the High Desert communities of San Bernardino County including Victorville, Apple Valley, and Barstow, as well as portions of Kern County. A member of the Republican Party, he was first elected to the House in 2020. Obernolte was born in Bellwood, Illinois, in 1970 and is a graduate of the California Institute of Technology, where he studied electrical engineering.
